Many factors contribute to the appearance of the face and neck as we age, including loss of skin elasticity, sun damage, smoking, and loss of fat in the face. Facial rejuvenation can improve of the following facial features:

woman with calm face
  • wrinkles of the forehead
  • wrinkles around eyes and mouth
  • pronounced folds between cheeks and lips

There are a number of procedures that can be performed to enhance facial appearance, including Botox® Cosmetic, and Juvéderm Injections.

Botox

Botox® Cosmetic is a prescription medicine that is injected into muscles and used to improve the look of frown lines in the brows of patients between 18 and 65 years of age, for a temporary time. It works by blocking the nerve impulses to the injected muscles, thereby reducing muscle activity that causes moderate to severe lines to form between the eyebrows.

Botox® Cosmetic was first introduced in 2002. It is the first botulinum toxin to be approved by the FDA to temporarily treat moderate to severe lines between the brows.

Prior to the treatment, we will review your medical history and examine your eyes to determine the most effective injection sites. The treatment takes approx. 10 minutes, and within days there is a noticeable improvement in moderate to severe frown lines between the eyebrows that can last up to 4 months.

There are some safety concerns and side effects possible with this treatment. Your doctor will discuss these concerns and answer any questions you may have before having the procedure.

Juvéderm

A Juvéderm® XC Injection is a dermal filler, and is a popular alternative to face lifts or other surgeries that give patients tighter, younger looking skin.

The active ingredient in Juvéderm® is hyaluronic acid (HA), a naturally occurring, biodegradable complex sugar found in all living organisms, including the human body. As you age, sunlight and other factors can reduce the amount of HA in your skin. This causes the skin to lose structure and volume, creating wrinkles and folds.

The skin is composed of two layers: the epidermis and the dermis. The epidermis is the outer layer of skin, and acts as the primary defense against the environment. The innermost layer of skin, or dermis, is composed primarily of connective tissue, and this provides the skin with a support network.

Using a fine needle, your doctor will carefully ease the Juvéderm® XC under the skin to fill the soft tissue of the dermis. The treatment adds volume and diminishes the appearance of wrinkles and nasolabial folds (parenthesis lines around nose & mouth). It is a non-surgical technique performed in our offices.

Juvéderm® XC is unique among the variety of hyaluronic fillers available in that is uses a manufacturing process called Hylacross™ technology. This gives it a special smooth-gel structure that hold up over time. Juvéderm® XC is the first smooth consistency HA gel, and the only HA filler that is FDA approved to last up to one year with only one treatment.
